Application of the Passport

  I.Requirements for Application

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR “DIASPORA” ORDINARY PASSPORT APPLICATIONS 

  • Application letter signed by the applicant, and addressed to the Director General of Immigration and Emigration;
  • Presence of the applicant when submitting the application and when collecting the passport respectively;
  • Fill and sign application form available on the following  website: www.migration.gov.rw;
  • One colored passport  size photograph with white back ground and showing both ears;
  • Rwanda Revenue Authority payment receipt (fees of Rwf 50,000  or equivalent);
  • Photocopy of residence permit/visa/consular card or passport of country of residence;
  • Photocopy of the expired passport on renewal;
  • Photocopy of national identity card;
  • Notified recommendation letter by the Embassy of the country where the applicant lives.

APPLYING FOR PASSPORT FOR CHILDREN UNDER 16 YEARS OF AGE

  • Application letter addressed to Director General of Immigration and Emigration signed by both parents;
  • Fully filled application form and write the names of child in space for signature;
  • Photocopy of birth certificate of the child (document issued by the civil status authority-the Sector);
  • Photocopy of marriage certificate of the parents (this document issued by the civil status authority-the sector);
  • Attach photo copies of parents ID cards;
  •  RRA payment receipt (fees of Rwf 50000 or equivalent);
  • One passport size photograph of the child with white background showing both ears;
  • Presence of the child or children;
  • Parents in Diaspora attach recommendation letter notified by Rwandan Embassy.

N.B.:

A child with a single parent:  For a child whose mother is not officially married, the mother      attaches “celibacy certificate”. When the child is taken care of by the father, the father attaches ‘’act of child recognition’’ issue by the civil status or judgment of child recognition rendered by the competent court.

For a child whose one of the parents passed away, the remaining parent attaches a copy of death certificate.

A child whose both parents passed away, the care taker/guardian submits copies of death certificates of the parents and evidence of being care taker (ref. judgment from the competent court).

A child has to present himself/herself at the Embassy with both parents while applying for travel documents.

1. Write an application letter addressed to the Director General of Immigration and Emigration in Rwanda. The letter can be written in one of the three following languages: Kinyarwanda, English or French;

3. Provide a copy of the former Rwandan passport and a Russian immigration document (e.g. permanent resident card/Russian ID, Russian passport or any document attesting your status in Russia)

4. Provide two colored passport pictures with a white background.

5. Passport  payment made by money order and payable to Rwanda Embassy in Russia  

Note:

For children under the age of 16, application for a passport consists of the following:

1. Write an application letter addressed to the Director General of Immigration and Emigration in Rwanda. The letter can be written in one of the three following languages: Kinyarwanda, English or French;

2. The child’s parents must sign the letter

3. Fill in the passport application form (use capital letters). Write full names of the child in the box provided. Click below to download the form: Diaspora passport application form

4. Photocopies of the parents' identity cards or passports

5. Birth certificate of the child

6. Provide two colored passport pictures with a white background.

7. Provide a copy of the former Rwandan passport and a Canadian immigration document (e.g. permanent resident card/Russian  ID/Russian passport or any document attesting the applicant’s status in Russia 

8. Passport fee payment ....... made by money order and payable to Rwanda Embassy in Russia.

Note:

1. It takes 1 to 3 months to obtain a passport (as of the date an application is made). This period is subject to possible irregularities identified by relevant services.

2. You can authorize someone to pick up your passport. You need to provide: 

a. A notarized letter 

b. A copy of his/her I.D/driving permit

3. You can also send a pre-paid return envelope (suggestion: enable tracking facility for your convenience)
